Mexico: Peña Nieto bought votes with pre-paid supermarket cards

One of the vote-buying cards
The scandal in the Mexican presidential elections only deepens day after day. Many bribed voters attempted these days to exchange pre-paid supermarket cards and became furious when they realized that the amount included was much less of what they were promised or even nothing at all. Many admitted to have received them in exchange of voting for the PRI's presidential candidate Enrique Peña Nieto and his party mate Héctor Pedroza (candidate for Congress).

However, under the Mexican law, giving presents to voters is no crime unless it can be proven that they demanded to be voted in exchange. The crime would be in surpassing the overall limit allowed for electoral expenditure, a fraction of what the PRI actually spent.

In addition, the Mexican TV, a near-monopoly, was extremely favorable to Peña Nieto, giving him much more TV time than would be normal and presenting false opinion polls that suggested he could win by much more than he actually did (if he did at all) in fact.
