Politically persecuted Basque youths go into hiding

Three of the five young citizens of Oiarsoaldea (the district of Irun, Gipuzkoa, Basque Country) who were sentenced to six-and-a-half years of prison for their political activism have announced that they do not accept the penalty imposed against them by the Spanish political tribunals and will go into hiding.

The Supreme Court of Spain condemned the five citizens for being members of the youth movement Segi and no other reason. The same Spanish political tribunals declared Segi illegal years ago.

In other words, the Spanish authorities confirm that being Basque, young and compromised is a crime... if they wish so.

Of the five sentenced (pictured above), Maitane Lizarsoro, Xabier Lujanbio and Arkaitz Arana have decided to risk disobedience and go into hiding, while continuing their political activity from clandestineness.
